The Artist
I am a painter based on Kauai, where light, shadow, color, and the natural landscape continually shape the way I see.
My work is abstract, with much of its inspiration coming from the extraordinary surfaces and layered color of Rainbow Eucalyptus—the shifting greens, blues, rusts, violets, and unexpected marks that appear almost like paintings themselves.
I work primarily on a large scale, using expressive color, texture, and movement to create paintings with energy and an uplifting presence. Scale is an important part of the work. In contemporary architecture and understated interiors, a large painting can do more than decorate a wall—it can define a space, create a focal point, and change the experience of a room.
I want my paintings to hold attention. They are meant to reveal themselves over time, offering new details, relationships, and moments of color each time they are seen rather than gradually disappearing into the background.
Huffman Art is my Kauai studio and the home of this ongoing exploration of color, composition, texture, and scale.
Away from the studio, I divide my time between technology projects, tennis, travel, and the experiences that inevitably find their way back into the work.
Collaboration
Most sales are through consignments and the creation of custom pieces. I enjoy the collaboration: envisioning the space, designing the right piece, and getting to know my clients. Many friendships were born through this process.
Original Works
I do not create copies, giclées, or postcards. Editions and reproductions are not part of the studio; each work is one of a kind. That scarcity protects the value of the unique pieces, and keeps the practice on quality rather than quantity. Prices have risen each year in step with that scarcity and with the collectors who live with the work.
